privacy · tending what you share
We built this platform and we do not collect, store, sell, or mine your data. What you offer travels as a message between people.
the short version
when you offer a trace
The "Add to the Heap" form does not send your words into a database. It composes an email in your own mail program, addressed to heap@deathisaverb.org, carrying only what you chose to write. You see it before it sends; you can edit or cancel it; and it leaves no copy on this website.
The circle reads these messages, tends each offering with care, and decides, slowly, by hand, which traces join the Heap. We never share your address with anyone. Separately, if you’d like to hear about gatherings and what’s stirring in the Heap, you can ask to join a simple list for that — and only that, which you can leave whenever you wish.
what we keep, and for how long
your choices
Traces in the Heap compost over time as they are left untended; we do not preserve copies. Like the Heap itself, our inbox and our list are tended to stay light.
Write to heap@deathisaverb.org, and a person — not a system — will answer.
why this matters
We are part of a wider movement of people who insist the web can be otherwise — that we need not be tracked, harvested, and sold to be together online.
Most of the web runs on extraction. What people write, click, and grieve is collected, profiled, and sold to strangers — often kept forever. Here it is not. When you leave a trace, it stays a message between people: not a data point to be mined, packaged, or resold. We keep no profile of you, run no trackers, and have nothing to sell — so what you share in a tender moment cannot be turned into an ad, a prediction, or a product. Refusing extraction is lighter on the earth, and it is how we keep this a place you can trust with your grief.
This policy describes the project as it is built today, a concept in active tending. It is written in plain language on purpose, and is a living document, composting like everything here.
