Gatherings

four times a year · in person

Sense together what no one can sense alone.

Some things cannot be sensed alone. Grief is one. Wonder is another. The slow shift in how we come to feel ourselves as beings of the earth happens most readily in company, in conversation, in shared attention, in the presence of others asking different questions.

What we sense together this November will return as traces in The Compost Heap — and the Heap hands us back toward each other, into shared and public space.

Four Seasons of Gathering

We gather four times a year, once a season. Each is small, in person, and shaped by whoever is in the room.

$10 · an offering, not a gate

The $10 is an honorarium for the voices who bring the evening, and covers the materials we make with. Waived, quietly, through The Human to Humus Fund for anyone it would keep away.

Ticketing opens shortly — through Ticket Tailor, which does not track who buys. Until then, write to hello@deathisaverb.org to hold a place.

Lending a voice

Small on purpose. A gathering where everyone can be heard is a different animal than an audience.

if we have written to you about lending a voice

What we would ask: roughly thirty minutes in conversation — not a lecture, not slides — wondering aloud with one other person about a single question. Then staying in the room while it opens to everyone. We would shape the question with you beforehand, around what you are already thinking about, and we would never ask you to prepare something new.

What we offer: an honorarium (modest, and always real), travel if you are traveling, a room of people who came on purpose, and a gathering that does not evaporate — what is sensed here is left as traces in a public, living archive that goes on composting long after the evening ends.

What we do not do: record and monetize you, put you on a stage above the room, or ask you to be the expert who settles the question. The whole evening is built to let that shape dissolve.

Curious, or want to talk it through? Write to hello@deathisaverb.org, or read what we are and what we are thinking with.

Propose a gathering

Is there a conversation you wish existed? Gatherings are proposed as much as programmed.

Ask us a question

Proposals are read by the Death Is a Verb circle, who curate and co-host gatherings. Proposing is the start of a conversation, not a commitment.
