The Human to Humus Fund

human to humus

Returning to the earth should not depend on the wealth you were born into.

The Human to Humus Fund reduces the financial barriers to ecological recomposition, so that returning your body to the earth need not depend on wealth.

New to the practice? Read what human composting is — the gentle, ecological return to soil this fund helps make possible.

our working principle

We ask you to document the cost of what you need — not to prove that you qualify for care.

No medical records, no income statements, no disability paperwork. We believe requiring proof of need is its own barrier.

How it works

1

Tell us what you need

Share a short description of the support you're seeking and how it would help. That's the heart of it — in your own words, however brief.

2

Name the cost, if you can

Where possible, include the provider or service and a quote, invoice, or estimate. If you don't have these yet, tell us — we can help you find them.

3

A small group reviews with care

A few people from the Foundation review each request for fit and available funds, keeping your information to the minimum needed.

4

We pay the provider directly

Wherever possible we pay the provider directly — nothing to front, nothing to be reimbursed for.

What we ask — and what we never will

what we may ask for
  • A short description of the support you're seeking
  • The name of the provider or service, if known
  • A quote, invoice, or estimate of cost, when available
  • Basic contact information, so we can coordinate payment
what we will never require
  • Medical records or diagnoses
  • Disability documentation
  • Income statements or tax returns
  • Public-assistance records
  • Proof that you qualify for care

How we steward the fund

Payment, made simple

We pay providers directly wherever we can. Where reimbursement is the only route, we will say so.

Decisions are made with care

Begin a request

If returning to the earth feels out of reach for financial reasons, we'd like to help. Reaching out is the start of a conversation, held with dignity and care.

Requests are confidential within the small review circle. We aim to respond with warmth, and as promptly as we can.
